Ella is fascinated by observing people, their behaviour, temperament and clothing questioning display and social ‘performance’. Painting semi-fictional portraits in real and imagined scenarios, she plays with fact and fiction in an attempt to understand her own sense of being.

Ella works from photographs, drawing, memory and writing. Play and experimentation are at the heart of her process, investigating how imagery evolves through the act of painting. 'The element of surprise and chance within painting excites me to capture not only what is seen in a moment but also what is felt, recalled and understood'.
