Ella is a multidisciplinary artistworking with painting, film, photography and performance. Her primary focus ispainting, informed by experiencing the complexity of gender and mixed ethnicidentities. Ella is fascinated by observing people, their behaviours,temperaments, and clothing, questioning identity, belonging and performance. Throughpainting semi-fictional portraits in real and imagined scenarios, Ella Playswith fact and fiction in attempt to understand her own sense of 'being'.

Ella works from photographs, drawing, memory and writing. Play and experimentation are at the heart of her process, investigating how imagery evolves through the act of painting. 'The element of surprise and chance within painting excites me to capture not only what is seen in a moment but also what is felt, recalled and understood'.
